Music Styles- COUNTRY

Country music originally was the folk music from cowboys and ‘hillbillys.’ It has grown to combine the styles of folk, jazz, rock and blues styles. Nashville, Tennessee is the birthplace of country music, where country music was played on the radio for the first time on a show called the “Grand Ole Opry.” Country music uses lots of string instruments, including guitar, fiddle, slide guitar, bass & banjo.

Here are some suggested country music listening examples from Mrs. Marro:

1. 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton

2. Walkin’ After Midnight by Patsy Cline

PLEASE feel free to add your own favorite country songs and artists to the list, so that other readers can find more country music to listen to!!
